JLAW M3 Blog

One of the sources I used for Module 3 was the website, law.jrank.org/pages/8750/Native-American-Rights-Hunting-Fishing-Rights.html.  I used this site as my starting point to help me understand better the Native American Hunting and Fishing laws.  It was also quite resourceful in some other areas breaking down some of the Native American rights such as Treaty Rights, Reserved Rights Doctrine, Federal Power over Native American Rights, Hunting and Fishing Rights, Water Rights and Gaming Rights.  I felt that it easily and thoroughly explained the topics citing the court cases and good examples to go along with each topic.  The website is a Law Library covering American and Legal Law, which also includes “thousands of legal articles, covering important court cases, historical legal documents, state laws & statutes, and general legal information”.(JRank)  I have used this website many times for some of my prior classes in the criminal justice field and I also sometimes use it as a quick reference for certain things pertaining to my job as well.  I find it to be a great starting point.  What I love about this particular website is that in the search you can put just about anything regarding legal/law and it brings up so much great information and it will guide you to the correct spot highlighting important points.

  2. I also focused on the law aspect, but pertaining to land issues. Documentation of the case law and rulings in the present day is very interesting because were are able to see that the native people are gaining more of a voice and that many wrongs are being made right. There is certainly a lot more work to be done and many things can not be undone, but the legal system is definitely balancing out in the favor of the native people.

  3. I think this is a great site, I am hunter myself so to learn more regarding the laws of the natives is very interesting. I feel that they should have more rights to the land; as it is something the US can give back to them as they lost everything. They also do not kill for the sport of it, they rely on these animals.
